ITV News presenter Tom Bradby believes he 'could have helped' Huw Edwards with his mental health battle as he says he too suffered a breakdown in the past.

Bradby,57,has opened up about his previous mental health issues, telling of how he went from feeling he was 'OK to being in really significant crisis very fast'.

In an interview with Radio Times, the news anchor - who will front ITV's election night coverage - admitted he 'probably' could have helped fellow presenter Edwards in the same way he was able to help other colleagues.

Veteran BBC presenter Edwards was taken to hospital last year suffering 'serious mental health issues' after he found himself at the centre of an explicit photos scandal.

Asked if he could have helped the Welsh star,Bradby replied: 'Yes,probably,a bit.  'You think about the world differently once you've had a breakdown and spent a lot of time talking about the stresses and strains we place on ourselves.'

It has been previously revealed that the BBC's election night coverage will be fronted by Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg

After previously speaking out about his mental health struggles,Bradby was approached by others in the industry who felt they were in a similar situation.

He says he hopes it continues, adding that helping others with their battles has 'enhanced' his life.

This election,Bradby will no longer be going head-to-head with Edwards, who quit the BBC earlier this year on 'medical advice' - nine months after he was suspended over allegations he paid a teenager thousands of pounds for sexual images.

It has been previously revealed that the BBC's election night coverage will instead be fronted by Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg.

Meanwhile Channel 4's coverage will be co-hosted by Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Emily Maitlis, while Kay Burley will anchor the coverage on Sky News.
